St. Stephen's Episcopal Church Oak Harbor

By God's Grace, All Are Welcome

A Message from our Sr. Warden from Oct. 2

Dear St. Stephen's Community:

We are into the last quarter of the year of 2021. In some ways, it seems as if the year just started, and in some ways, January feels as if it was a very long time ago. I do not seem to be able to keep track of time the way I always have. I think that is mostly because the way we spend our time is so different than normal. Mind you, I think I may have forgotten what is actually normal, and may not even recognize it when we get there. The season of Autumn has always been for me, a time to take stock, and be thankful for my very many blessings. Having lived the first almost forty years of my life in Canada, I am accustomed to celebrating Thanksgiving on the second Monday of October. Whenever you celebrate Thanksgiving, what are you most thankful for this year?

Right now, I would have to say that I am most thankful for my health and the health of my family. I am thankful for having family, who with the help of technology, I can visit with and talk with, even if it is more difficult to actually be with. I am thankful for friends who are near and far, but who I can talk to by picking up my phone. I am thankful for a church community. I am thankful for all those in that community who have continued the work of the church in more difficult times, who have figured out how to “zoom” so that we can stay in touch, and participate in meetings, worship services, and just plain chats. I am thankful for all of you who are reading this, that you have stayed connected, stayed committed, and supported your church’s work. We have begun our stewardship drive, and I ask that you prayerfully consider how you want to support your church community in the coming year. Please respond with thankful hearts.
